Women's Rowing Wins At Head Of The Fish

Amherst, Mass. - The UMass women's rowing team won both the varsity eight and quad races at The Head Of The Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday. UMass also had four of the top 12 finishers in the women's open singles event.
The varsity eight consisted of senior Faith Harkins (Marion, Mass.),junior Stephanie Hopf (Hadley, Mass.), senior Lea Jakobsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), sophomore Ellen Maskrey (Pittsburgh, Penn.),junior Katie Berger (Amherst, N.H), junior Catherine Gariepy (Lorraine, Quebec), sophomore Hannah Brewster (Plymouth, Mass.),sophomore Tara Guinan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and sophomore coxswain Kristina Ferraro (Columbus, Ohio). The varsity eight won with a time of 12:23:31. Colgate was second at 12:32:23.
The quad featured Jakobsen, Hopf, Brewster, and Gariepy as the rowers. They turned in a time of 15:20:14. In the singles event, Jakobsen was third (16:26:90), Gariepy was fourth (16:27:34), Brewster was seventh (16:43:10), and Hopf was 12th (17:18.75). Two alums, Katie O'Brien and Lizzy Boyle came in eighth and ninth. Another alum, Laura Hutchinson was fourth in the women's novice single. Both Boyle and Hutchinson are currently assistant coaches.
