Rowers Win Four Gold Medals At Head Of The Fish

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The UMass rowing team met success at the Head of the Fish on Saturday, October 29 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Despite the cold weather and winds the Minutewomen came home with nine metals. UMass had four first place finishes, two second place finishes and three third place finishes at the race.
Starting off the Minutewomen's success was the first place finish by the double boat stroked by Kendall Bennett and Amanda Doolin. They rowed their way to a victory with a time of 13:50.94. Soon after the Lightweight 4+ boat also took a first place finish with a time of 14:33.42, more than 40 seconds ahead of the closest boat.
The Mixed 8+ also finished in first place with a time of 12:17.26 in a tight race with the Saratoga boat, who finished just nine seconds behind them.
In spite of the winds picking up, the Novice 4+ took first place by almost a minute with a time of 14:09.61. The Novice 8+ boat finished in sixth place with a time of 14:03.64.
The Junior Varsity 8+ boat took a second place finish with a time of 12:43.91. Also finishing in second place was the Lightweight 8+ with a time of 16:34.76.
Michaela Streitfield finished in third place in the single event with a time of 15:33.61. The pair boat also finished in third place (16:14.69). Rounding out the metal winners was the 4+ boat, who came in third place out of 28 with a time of 13:34.77.
The Minutewomen will head to Dartmouth, N.H. for the Green Monster next Saturday, November 5.
