First Place Finishes Abound For UMass Rowing At The Head Of The Fish

SARATOGA, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts rowing program secured eight first place finishes while three additional boats taking second at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga, N.Y., on Saturday.
Claudia Caballero Larco took first in the Collegiate 1x with a time of 15:35.47, more than 24 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Colgate. The Minutewomen followed up their first gold of the day with another in the Collegiate Open 2- when Lauren St. Pierre and Marika Kopp crossed the finish line in 16:16.66.
The Lightweight 4+ boat of Abigail Raichek, Hallie Dunlap, Meghan Rubbo, Sam Wonderlin and Estefi Marti Malvido earned a time of 16:14.69 for the top spot in the event before the 8+ entry tallied a gold medal in 13:08.37, a full 15 seconds ahead of second place Wesleyan. The Collegiate 8+ boat consisted of Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Kopp, Gabrielle Hayward, St. Pierre, Caballero Larco, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul & Allanah Rubi-Mooney.
The quad of St. Pierre, Kopp, Caballero Larco and Rachael Boudreau also took the top spot with a time of 14:42.99. The Novice 8+ boat added to the medal count with first place time of 14:07.64 as Haley Eovine, Haley York, Mann, Pippa Edwards, Catherine Murphy, Teagan Rolf von den Baumen, Natalie Boisvert and Wonderlin crossed nearly 35 seconds ahead of the next competitors.
The Novice 4+ rounded out the first place finishers from UMass.
In the Collegiate 2x event, St. Pierre and Kopp took second in 15:9.83 while Junior Varsity 8+ also took silver with a time of 14:12.60. The Lightweight 8+ rounded out the trio of second place finishes by crossing 13:47.52.
The Minutewomen continue their fall schedule on Nov. 2 with participation in the Green Monster, hosted in Hanover, N.H.
