NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The walk-on novice rowers of the UMass rowing team competed in the annual Pumpkin Head Regatta on Sunday in Northampton on the Connecticut River. The newcomers faced novice rowers from Smith College.

UMass raced two 8+ boats against three Smith boats and managed to come out on top, finishing with a time of 13:01 in the 1.5 kilometer race, just eleven seconds faster than the Smith boat. The second UMass boat came in third place with a time of 14:13.

The Minutewomen will be back in action next weekend when they take on the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21.
