Rowing Sweeps UConn in Five Races

COVENTRY, Conn. - The Massachusetts rowing program defeated UConn in five events on Friday at Coventry Lake, in Coventry, Conn., taking first in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ races.
In the Varsity 8+ race, the Minutewomen finished in a time of 7:08.46, which was nine seconds ahead of the Husky boat. The UMass boat consisted of Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Marika Kopp, Pippa Edwards, Candace Miller, Sam Kolovson, Lauren St. Pierre and Allanah Rubi-Mooney.
The second Varsity 8+ boat of Haley Eovine, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul, Teagan Rolf von den Baumen, Natalie Boisvert, Hadley Irvin, Rebecca Adams, Hannah Monahan, Krysten Menks and Estefi Marti Malvido earned a time of 7:30.53 to claim the top spot in the second Varsity 8+ race. UConn followed with a time of 7:37.18 and the second UMass entry, the third Varsity 8+ boat, finished in 8:13.30.
The Varsity 4+ won in a time of 8:30.04, which was 31 seconds ahead of the UConn boat. The boat consisted of Emily Hajjar, Rachel Boudreau, Gabrielle Hayward, Kyla Miller and Sam Wonderlin,
In the second Varsity 4+ race, the UMass boat finished with a time of 8:31.74 followed by UConn in 8:53.48. The boat included Abigail Raichek, Hallie Dunlap, Courtney Edson, Haley York and Leanne Ondreicka.
Lastly, the Novice 8+ boat rounded out the first place finishers in a time of 8:13.36.
The Minutewomen will continue their spring season on Saturday in Boston against MIT and Bates.
