Rowing Sweeps Colgate In Three Races

HADLEY, Mass. - The UMass rowing team defeated Colgate in three events Sunday morning on the Connecticut River, taking first place in the Varsity 8+, second Varsity 8+ and Novice 4+. The race was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but inclement weather forced the competition to be moved to Sunday.

The V8 won by the greatest margin, crossing the finish line in 7:29, which was 23 seconds before the second UMass V8 boat. The boat consisted of Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Marika Kopp, Pippa Edwards, Candace Miller, Sam Kolovson, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul and Allanah Rubi-Mooney. In the second Varsity 8+ race, the UMass 4V8+ notched a time of 8:23, which was 16 seconds ahead of second place Colgate.

In the Novice 4+ race, the first UMass entry won by the slimmest margin of the morning, taking first by nine seconds over the second Minutewomen boat.

Conditions: All races ran upstream into a strong head currant. There was a slight head wind for the N4+ race.
