Women's Lacrosse Adds Eight Freshman To 2010 Team

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's lacrosse head coach Alexis Venechanos announced that eight freshman will join the Minutewomen squad this season. The class of 2013 comprises four attacks, two midfielders, one defenseman and one goalkeeper. These newcomers will join a heavily experienced squad that won the Atlantic 10 title last season and made its first NCAA Tournament in 25 years. The Minutewomen will conclude their fall ball season this weekend with their annual Alumni Game on Saturday at 10 AM.
Brianna Concialdi (Cortland Monor, N.Y.) joins UMass after spending four years at Yorktown High School. While at Yorktown, Concialdi was a three-sport athlete, playing field hockey and skiing in addition to lacrosse. With her anchoring the defense, Yorktown won the Section title in 2008 and were the State semi-finalists and Regional Champions in 2009.
Christina Fey (Kings Park, N.Y.) will serve as a backup to Katie Florence this season after graduating from Kings Park High School in 2009. During her senior season Fey received the All-League and All-County awards in addition to serving as team captain.
Sarah Mullen (Rexford, N.Y.) comes to Massachusetts after graduating from Emma Willard High School. She will compete for time in a potent UMass offense. Playing three sports while in high school, Emma Willard Lacrosse were the NYS Section II Class C Champions in 2007 and 2008. Mullen was named to the CHVL First-Team following her junior and senior seasons.
Cori Murray (Oceanport, N.J.) will also fight for playing time at attack following a four-year stint at Shore Regional High School. After her senior season, she was named First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All-America and First-Team All-Offense awards. Shore Regional won the NJS IAA State Section Championship during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Kelsey Palmer (Hillsborough, N.J.) graduated from Hillsborough High School in 2009 after playing lacrosse and field hockey. She was named Second-Team All-Conference and All-Area following her senior season. Hillsborough won the conference championship during her junior year and advanced to the North New Jersey Group 4 Finals in 2009.
Jordan Renna (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was a two sport athlete in high school, claiming the Mountain Lakes Most Outstanding Female Athlete Award and Varsity Athletic Award following her senior seasons. She was also named a First-Team All-American.
Kristen Scopetski (Worthborough, Mass.) joins the Minutewomen as a true freshman after graduating from Algonquin Regional High School in 2009. While at Algonquin, Scopetski received the Mid-Wach All-Star award during each of her athletic seasons, and was named a Metrowest All-Star after her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She served as the team captain and received the Algonquin Offensive Player of the Year after her senior year.
Lauren Terracciano (Garden City, N.Y.) was a two sport athlete at Garden City high school, competing in field hockey in addition to lacrosse. Terracciano received All-Conference honors following her junior and senior seasons, and helped Garden City to the New York State Championship title during each of her four seasons. Her field hockey team also won three New York state titles with Terracciano as a member of the squad.
