AMHERST, Mass. - Several UMass teams will be participating in the Second Annual Friends of Jaclyn Walk/Race on October 4 at Amherst College. UMass Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Women's Basketball will all be taking part in the event. The UMass Softball has recently gotten involved in the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, as well. The race will begin at 10 AM will a pre-race rally.

The "Friends of Jaclyn Race/Walk" is the brainchild of college student-athletes who wanted to merge the community with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. The event is run completely by student-athletes and 100% of the profits and donations will go to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Last fall, over 350 people attended the inaugural race and raised over $5,000.

All participants will have the opportunity to "Live in the moment... Play in the moment." by either running on a 5K race, or walking a 1-mile route. At 10:00 AM on October 4th, an hour prior to the Race/Walk start, there will be a rally at the Amherst College field house for the participating runners. The rally will include recognition of the brain tumor patients and survivors, as well as short speeches by Denis Murphy (Jaclyn's Dad) and other influential members of the foundation.
