Women's Lacrosse To Host Alumni Game Saturday At McGuirk

AMHERST, Mass. - This fall the five-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion UMass women's lacrosse team will compete in six events in preparation for its 2014 campaign. The Minutewomen will open the fall season with the Alumni Game this Saturday, September 21 at 1 PM at McGuirk Stadium. Following the Alumni Game, the Minutewomen will face Harvard, Louisville and Syracuse on September 29 at Harvard.
UMass will also play Stony Brook on October 5, host a playday at McGuirk Stadium on October 12 and participate in playdays at Dartmouth and Boston College on October 20 and October 26 respectively.
Saturday, September 21: Alumni Game (McGuirk)
The UMass women's lacrosse team finished the 2013 season with a 18-3 record, a perfect record in the A-10 and a perfect record in home games. The record ultimately led to the fifth consecutive A-10 Championship and an automatic birth into the NCAA Tournament. The Minutewomen defeated UConn in the NCAA Tournament First Round for their first tournament win since 1984 before falling to seventh-seeded Penn State in the Second Round.
UMass graduated two of their top four point scorers from last year but will be returning All-American Katie Ferris who had a season to remember in 2013. Ferris led UMass in points (75), goals (52), assists (23), game winning goals (4), shots (113), and shots on goal (87). The senior out of Carthage, N.Y. received an array of awards last season including A-10 Lacrosse Player of the Year, WomensLax.com All-American and IWLCA All-America Third Team honors.
