Incoming Women's Lacrosse Freshman Jackie Lyons Named To Under Armour 2007 All-America Team
June 1, 2007 AMHERST, Mass. - Incoming freshman women's lacrosse player Jackie Lyons (Rocky Point, N.Y.) has been named to the Under Armour 2007 All-America Team as picked by Inside Lacrosse Magazine and announced last week by Under Armour, Inc., and Corrigan Sports Enterprises. The 2007 Under Armour All-America Team recognizes the top up-and-coming high school lacrosse talent, consisting of the best boys and girls senior lacrosse players in the country, each of whom was selected by a panel of experts headed by Kim Simons on the girls' side and Gary Gait on the boys' side and organized by the team at Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The 2007 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic will take place on Saturday, June 16th at Loyola College's Geppi-Aikens Field. All full day of events is scheduled, beginning with the STX Lacrosse Youth Clinic at 9 AM. Following that event at 11 a.m., which is open to kids age 15 & under, will be the D.C. vs. Baltimore Girls' Underclassmen game. At 1 p.m. will be the D.C. vs. Baltimore Boys' Underclassmen Game. At the conclusion of that contest, the All-American Girls square off in a North vs. South format before the All-American Boys finish the day live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. Lyons is a member of University of Massachusetts first-year head coach Alexis Venechanos' inaugural recruiting class and signed her National Letter of Intent during the November early signing period. The 5-foot-5 midfield/attack played for Rocky Point High School and was a two-time All-America selection during her career. This season, she has 76 goals and helped Rocky Point to a perfect 19-0 record and the Suffolk Class B Championship title this spring. As a junior she scored 83 goals and tallied 59 assists to become the school's first-ever All-America pick. She has been an all-league, all-section, all-county and All-Long Island selection throughout her high school career. A pure scorer, Lyons also holds Rocky Point's school record for most goals in a game with nine.
"This is a fitting honor for Jackie who has had an outstanding high school lacrosse career," said Venechanos. "We are excited for her to end her career on such a high note and look forward to her and the rest of our incoming freshman class joining us on campus next fall." This year's crop of All-Americans features 90 players from 13 states, from as far away as California and Colorado to as close as Maryland and Virginia. New York had the most players selected with 25, while Maryland was second on the list with 24. The University of Virginia had 12 commitments chosen for the event (nine boys and three girls) with Duke having 11 signees (five boys and six girls). (More notes about the event at the end of the release). Paul McDermott of Huntington High School and Diane Chapman from Garden City High School will serve as the head coaches of the North Boys' and Girls' squads, respectively, while Brian Kelly from Calvert Hall and Brooke Kuhl-McClelland of Mount Hebron, both of whom were victorious in last year's underclassmen games, will serve in the same capacity for the South Boys' and Girls' teams. In the inaugural Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic last year, both of the North teams were victorious. The boys won by the score of 17-14 and the girls outscored their counterparts, 15-12. Tickets are on sale now ranging from $25 to $10 for students. For more information, call 410-605-9381 or visit www.underarmourlacrosse.com and www.insidelacrosse.com.
