AMHERST, Mass. - For the second consecutive year, the No. 15/8 UMass Women's Lacrosse team placed five players on the IWLCA All-Northeast Region Team. Junior attack Katie Ferris and junior defender Kelsey McGovern each were named to the All-Region First Team and are now eligible for All-American honors. Junior midfielder Tanner Guarino, junior attack Sam Rush and junior defender Kelsey Sheridan were all named to the All-Region Second Team.

This is the third-straight year Ferris has earned an All-Region honor. In 2012 she was also named to the First Team, while in 2011 she earned Second Team honors.

UMass (17-2) will face UConn on Friday evening in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The winner will play either seventh-seeded Penn State or Canisius in the NCAA Tournament Second Round on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament after winning their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Tournament. This marks the third straight year UMass has qualified for the NCAA Tournament and the fourth time in the last five years.

Ferris leads the Minutewomen in points (70) thanks to 47 goals and 23 assists. She is the all-time record holder for career points (240), ranks 9th among active NCAA players in career points, and her 4.58 points per game is the 17th most for a player in NCAA history. She was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 and 2011 and is a three-year All-Conference First Team selection.

McGovern leads the UMass defense which ranks seventh nationally in allowing just 7.95 goals per game. She is also UMass' primary draw control specialist with 100 on the season - the 2nd best mark at UMass and the 11th best single-season mark in NCAA history. She was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.

Guarino, the Minutewomen's top midfielder, also earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors. In 19 games this season, the native of Framingham, Mass., has a career-high 42 points on 22 goals and 20 assists. For her career, she is just one point shy of 100 career points. The versatile middie is also among UMass' leaders in groundballs (32) and caused turnovers (24).

Rush broke the UMass single-season record for goals scored with 61 on the year. She scored a career-high six goals in the Atlantic 10 Championship game en route to earning Most Outstanding Player honors for the league tournament. She enters the NCAA Tournament as the 3rd ranked goal scorer in the nation.

Sheridan also earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honors alongside Rush and was named to the A-10 All-Tournament Team. The defender from Chelmsford, Mass., leads UMass in groundballs (41), ranks second in draw controls (51) and is third in caused turnovers (20). She also has three goals and six assists on the year.
