AMHERST, Mass. - After picking up wins over St. Bonaventure and Duquesne last weekend to secure the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title, UMass women's lacrosse senior Kelsey Sheridan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and freshman Hannah Murphy (Duxbury, Mass.) were honored by the league office on Monday. Sheridan was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, while Murphy was named the Co-Rookie of the Week.

Sheridan finished the weekend with 5 caused turnovers, 7 groundballs, one draw control, one goal and one assist. In transition play, helped UMass go 18-for-20 on clearing attempts while holding the opposition to 17-34. In the win over St. Bonaventure, Sheridan had 3 caused turnovers, five groundballs, a draw control, a goal and an assist. In the win at Duquesne, she had two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Murphy finished the week with 15 draw controls, a goal, an assist, two groundballs and a caused turnover. She had a season high 9 draw controls in the win over St. Bonaventure to go with an assist. Played a key role in the win at Duquesne with a goal, 6 draw controls, 2 groundballs, and a caused turnover.

UMass won the A-10 regular-season title by going undefeated in league play for the fourth consecutive year. The Minutewomen have now won the A-10 regular season title six times in program history including the last four straight years and five times in the last six years.

The 7-0 finish to the A-10 regular season extended UMass' league win streak to 28 games which is the fourth longest in NCAA history. The Minutewomen have also won 38 consecutive games against Atlantic 10 rivals including tournament games.

UMass enters the Atlantic 10 Championship having won five straight league titles which is an Atlantic 10 record.

The Minutewomen will open the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday, May 2 against Duquesne (3:30 PM) at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va. UMass is the No. 1 seed in the tournament. A win would put UMass in the Championship game on Sunday, May 3 (1 PM).
