AMHERST, Mass - Long Island natives Sam Rush and Jena Cozza have been named the Co-UMass Athletes of the Week, as announced by the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee on Tuesday.

Both athletes will be recognized at Wednesday's sports luncheon, which will be held at the UMass Boat House, located at the Sportsman's Marina in Hadley on Route 9 where the Calvin Coolidge Bridge meets the Connecticut River.

After scoring the game-winning goal in the 9-8 win at Richmond on Saturday, Rush, a senior from West Babylon, N.Y., was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. The win game UMass sole possession of first place in the A-10 as both teams entered the contest with undefeated marks in league play. It also locked up a spot for the Minutewomen in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament in two weeks.

Rush led all players in the game with three goals, including the game-winner, while adding two caused turnovers, a draw control and a groundball. Rush was held scoreless in the first half, but was key in the second.

The three goals scored give the senior a team-best 54 this year and 163 for her career. The game-winning goal was her 5th this season and the 14th of her career as well.

Cozza, a freshman from Wantagh, N.Y., earned her second consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week honor on Monday after batting .600 (9-for-15) for the week with a home run, six RBI and three runs scored. Against La Salle on Friday, Cozza went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. She followed that performance with two additional multi-hit games against Fordham in which she was 5-for-8 (.625) with a home run and three RBI.

She has established herself as one of the leading candidates for A-10 Freshman/Rookie of the Year as she ranks ninth in the league in hitting with a .346 avg. She is fourth in A-10 play with a .469 avg.

UMass Rowing head coach Jim Diets is this week's featured speaker and will also give an all-access tour of the facility which is in its first year of existence.

The buffet luncheon is held from noon to 1:15 PM with a cost of $13 per person. The program will begin at 12:15 PM and free parking will be available at Sportsman's Marina.
