Kathleen Typadis Named A-10 Lacrosse Performer Of The Week
April 17, 2006
AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Performer of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Typadis scored nine goals to lead UMass to Atlantic 10 wins at Saint Joseph's and at La Salle. The Minutewomen will next host Temple at Garber Field this Sunday afternoon in a game with conference tournament implications.
Typadis' effort this weekend help UMass move up in the conference rankings from ranking eighth (last) to fourth-place. Only the top four teams in the league make the tournament and UMass has three games A-10 games remaining in the season.
Against St. Joe's, Typadis scored four goals which tied her season-best scoring effort. She also had three groundballs against the Hawks. On Saturday, she scored a career-high five goals in the win over La Salle taking just six shots. She also collected two groundballs and had two crucial draw controls in the second half. This was the second time in her career that she scored five goals against the Explorers.
Typadis now has 78 career points on 70 goals in just 30 games. Her nine goals this week moved her past assistant coach Tracey Drown who had 61 goals in her career and was UMass' last All-American selection (2004).
This season she has a team-best 35 points on 34 goals and one assist. She needs just three goals to go past her freshman scoring total of 36 and just six more goals to be ranked in UMass' all-time top ten for goals in a single season. With 70 goals in her career, she needs just 18 more to be ranked 10th all-time at UMass in career goals.
This is Typadis' second A-10 honor as she was named the league's rookie of the week once last season.
