AMHERST, Mass. - After helping the No. 13/10 UMass women's lacrosse team to wins over Richmond and George Washington, junior attack Katie Ferris was named both the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and the UMass Athletics Performer of the Week as announced on Monday. With her 11 points on six goals and five assists over the weekend, the native of Carthage, N.Y., tied the program's all-time career points record of 226 which was last set by Jackie Lyons.

Ferris' play was instrumental over the weekend as UMass improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play with a 12-11 double-overtime win against Richmond and a 10-9 win over George Washington.

Ferris scored the game-winning goal against the Colonials and was instrumental in the come-from-behind win against Richmond.

In the win over Richmond, she had 3 goals, 2 assists, 1 groundball and 1 draw control - her goal with 63 seconds left in regulation brought UMass within a goal, 11-10, after the Spiders had taken a two goal lead 12 minutes prior. That goal allowed UMass to force overtime and eventually win in double overtime.

On Sunday, Ferris scored 3 goals, added 3 assists and posted 2 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers. She scored back-to-back goals after GW had tied the game 8-8 just over 10 minutes into the second half with her final goal of the game serving as the game-winner.

This marks the second time this season that Ferris has earned the A-10 Player of the Week honor. For the Minutewomen, the weekly accolade is the seventh time this season a UMass player has been named the offensive or defensive player of the week.

Ferris will be honored for being named the UMass Performer of the Week on Wednesday, April 10, at the Weekly Sports Luncheon which is held in the Massachusetts Room on the 3rd Floor of the Mullins Center. The luncheon begins at Noon and costs $11 for a full salad-to-dessert buffet. The guest speakers for this week are women's rowing coach Jim Dietz and women's soccer coach Ed Matz.
