Women's Lacrosse Moves Up In Polls; Time Change For St. Joe's Game
April 3, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. - Thanks to a pair of Atlantic 10 wins last Friday and Sunday, the UMass women's lacrosse team moved up to No. 10 in the deBeer Media Poll and No. 17 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Minutewomen were ranked NO. 15 in the media poll and No. 19 in the coaches poll last week.
UMass will host A-10 foe Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon at McGuirk Stadium starting at 3 PM - the game was originally slated for a 3:30 PM start. Admission is free to all.
The Minutewomen (11-1, 2-0 A-10) will be looking for their 14th consecutive win against league teams. UMass last lost to an A-10 team on April 18, 2010 in the regular-season finale against St. Bonaventure. UMass is also one of six teams to have double-figure wins this season and one of six teams to have one-or-fewer losses.
Friday will mark the only game of the weekend for UMass. Sophomore Katie Ferris enters the game needing just three goals to hit 100 for her career and five points to tie the single-season program record (74, Whitney Thayer, 1981). Ferris currently ranks 11th all-time at UMass in career goals (97) with the school record being 170 set back Pam Moryl from 1982-85.
