AMHERST, Mass. - UMass midfielder Tanner Guarino was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week thanks to her performance in 9-8 overtime triumph over Albany last Friday. Guarino had a game-high five groundballs and forced three turnovers, the most on the team. In addition, she took a draw control and scored a goal.

Three of her groundballs in the second half directly led to Minutewomen goals, including her own to bring the score to 6-5 in favor of Albany at the time. The three caused turnovers and five groundballs both mark new career-highs in those categories for Guarino.

Guarino now ranks second on the team in groundballs, behind only Kelsey McGovern who has 25. She is also second on the team in caused turnovers with 12. The goal marked her 10th of the season, as she becomes the fifth member of the Minutewomen to reach double figures in goals scored.

UMass defeated Vermont 16-5 in their last game on Thursday, March 13. After three straight games at home, the Minutewomen head to Fairfield, Conn. to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, March 16.
