AMHERST, Mass. - After leading the UMass women's lacrosse team to a 19-10 win over Albany on Sunday, junior Kerri Connerty has been named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, while teammate Kathleen Typadis has been named the league's Co-Rookie of the Week announced the conference office on Monday.
Connerty earned the second Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor of her career after scoring a career-high six goals against visiting Albany on Sunday. She also assisted on two other scores to give her a career-high eight points in the 19-10 win. For her career, Connerty has now scored 10 goals and posted seven assists against the Danes. Last season it was her go-ahead goal that secured the 17-15 UMass win as they fought back from a second-half deficit. In this season's meeting, it was her final goal of the game which ended a three-goal Albany rally pulling the Danes within five, 14-9, which sealed the victory.
Typadis posted her fourth hat trick in as many games in the win over Albany on Sunday en route to earning A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week honors. This is her second league honor this season. Typadis is now the first UMass freshman to record hat tricks in her first four games in the last decade. Typadis also handed out two assists, collected two groundballs, caused two turnovers, controlled three draws and was 2-for-2 on free position shots. She leads the Minutewomen with 14 goals and four assists. Joanna Dignazio of the 1995 squad holds the modern era record for rookie scoring with 38 points on 33 goals and five assists. Last week, in a 12-7 loss at Harvard, Typadis scored four second half goals to rally UMass.
The women's lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday when they host No. 13 Syracuse on Garber Field at 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasts live on Sports Juice.
