Kathleen Typadis Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - After leading the UMass women's lacrosse team to a pair of road wins, junior Kathleen Typadis has been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week. Typadis scored six goals and added three assists for the week and moved into 10th all-time at UMass in career goals. At 3-1 UMass is off to its best start since the 2003 season. Typadis will be honored on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon which will be held at Noon in Room 1009 of the Campus Center. The Minutewomen will face No. 9 Dartmouth at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
The Minutewomen defeated Vermont 13-8 on Wednesday and Harvard 18-7 on Saturday.
Typadis scored three goals at UVM and had three goals and three assists at Harvard. Her six goals on the week moved her into 10th all-time in career goals at UMass with 90 in 39 games. She is the first person since Hope Zelinger in 2004 to move into the top-10 goals list. Her six points at Harvard was a career-high as were her three assists.
She also had five draw controls on the week moving her into fourth all-time at UMass with 65 for her career. She leads UMass with 11 goals and four assists this season. Typadis has been one of the most consistent scorers for UMass having scored in 28 consecutive games with 16 hat tricks.
Typadis now needs 13 more points to move into the all-time top-10 career points list at UMass.
Monday's honor was the second time in her career that Typadis has been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week. She also earned the honor last May after leading UMass to a pair of Atlantic 10 wins to qualify for the A-10 Conference Tournament.
Under first-year head coach Alexis Venechanos, UMass is 3-1 on the season having won three straight games - all on the road. The Minutewomen posted their first win over a ranked team, a 13-11 win at No. 16 Boston University, since defeating No. 19 Temple twice in 2000. UMass received seven votes on Monday in the Others Receiving Votes category of the InsideLacrosse.com Media Poll.
