Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (4-9, 2-3 A-10) took down the Hawks of St. Joseph's (6-4, 1-3 A-10), 13-11 this afternoon on Finnesey Field. Senior Tracey Drown (Nashua, N.H.) scored five goals in the contest, while senior Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied the winner. Sophomore Kerri Connerty shined offensively as well, netting four goals.

Saint Joseph's struck first in the second period on Kristen Teklinsky's fourth goal to give the Hawks the 10-7 advantage. UMass responded with a goal, but Kerry O'Connell scored her second goal of the game to increase the Hawks lead back to three, at 11-8. However St. Joe's would not score again, as Massachusetts hit the back of the net five times over the final 20 minutes to take the contest.

The Hawks jumped out to and early lead after Teklinsky found the back of the net twice, and fellow seniors Megan Gresh and Amie Schmoltze each scored once to put the Hawks up 4-0 just seven minutes into the first half. UMass would score the next four goals to tie the game at 4-4, but two goals by Shannon Scott broke that tie and put the Hakws back up by a score of 6-4. UMass fought back however and managed to tie the score once again, but St. Joe's responded with another goal by Scott and Kerry O'Connell's first tally of the game to again take a two goal advantage. Massachusetts scored late in the first half to cut the lead to 8-7, but Kristen Teklinsky's third goal of the half, gave the Hawks a 9-7 advantage at halftime.

The Minutewomen will be back in action Sunday, April 25, as they take on LaSalle in game two of their Philadelphia road trip. The match is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
