AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (3-9) fell to Temple (7-6) at Garber Field this afternoon, 20-14. Senior captain Tracey Drown (Nashua, N.H.) and Temple's Corey Leader each posted a game-high eight points in the high scoring contest.

In a game of streaks, Temple jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, with the first two scored by Marie Cataldo. Drown then answered with two of UMass three consecutive goals to make the score 4-3. The Owls then went on a five-goal run to make it a 9-3 Temple advantage. Senior Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) ended the run with a goal at 12:18, off of a pass from senior defender Andrea Valachovic (Framingham, Mass.), for Valachovic's first assist of the season. With the score at 12-6 in favor of Temple, UMass ended the half on a solid note, as junior captain Maura McGarrity (Chester Springs, Pa.) hit the back of the net twice, to cut the Temple edge to 12-8.

The game tightened up for the first part of the second half, with Temple scoring twice, while UMass scored three times. Temple broke it open for good however, when they reeled off five straight tallies to reach a 19-11 advantage. Drown scored three more goals, two of of free-position shots and one unassisted, but that was all the Minutewomen would muster as the game ended with a Temple win, 20-14.

The Minutewomen are back in action on Friday, April 23, as they head to Philadelphia for a 5:00 p.m. matchup with St. Joseph's, and then stay in Philadelphia for an 11:00 a.m. match with LaSalle on Sunday, April 25.
