No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Runs Past George Washington, 20-6

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Nine different players scored goals for the No. 10 UMass women's lacrosse team as the Minutewomen ran past George Washington on Friday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field. Katie Ferris scored five goals, while Sam Rush added four to lead the UMass offense which posted a season-high for goals in a game.
The win improved UMass to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic 10, while the Colonials fall to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Ferris added an assist for a game-high six points. Tanner Guarino had five points on three goals and two assists, while Amy Tiernan had two goals and an assist. Eileen McDonald (two goals), Ellie Bullitt, Nicole Troost, Erika Eipp and Melissa Carelli all scored goals on the day as well.
Rachel Mia posted two goals for GW, while Alli Rash had two assists. Four other Colonials scored a goal in the game.
Mackenzie Jones took the loss in goal making eight saves.
UMass held a 32-to-18 advantage in shots and a 17-to-11 edge in draw controls.
The Minutewomen jumped out to a four-goal lead over the first seven minutes of play. After GW go on the board at the 21:59 mark of the first half, UMass scored eight of the next 10 goals to go up 12-4 at halftime.
The teams traded goals over the first 14 minutes of the second half, but UMass strung together a five goal run in a 10-minute stretch to push its lead to 19-5.
Both teams scored goals in the final three minutes of play to give the final score.
The Minutewomen will return home to McGuirk Stadium on Sunday to host Atlantic 10 newcomer George Mason. The opening draw is set for 1 PM and admission is free to all. Prior to the game, UMass will honor its 2014 senior class.
