Women's Lacrosse Falls To Hofstra, 9-8

AMHERST, Mass. -- Kathleen Mikowski scored a goal at 5:47 to give Hofstra a 9-8 victory over the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team on Monday afternoon at Garber Field. The loss dropped UMass to 5-4 on the season and lifted Hofstra to 3-4.
The Pride came out strong in the first half, scoring the first four goals of the game. Mikowski started the scoring at the 28:48 mark, putting Hofstra on the board first. Senior Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J.) ended the four straight Pride goals with a UMass goal at the 20:05 mark, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Minutewomen used Emery's goal to spark their offense as Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) scored three goals before the end of the half to make the score 6-4 at the intermission.
UMass came out quick in the second half, scoring three early goals to take its first lead of the game, 7-6, after Lori Kain (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) and Robinson were all able to find the back of the net. The Pride were able to even the game at 7-7 after Mikowski was able to sneak a dribbling shot past Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) for a goal. Hofstra scored again at the 9:52 mark on a goal by Becky Thorn to take a 8-7 lead before Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) scored for UMass to tie the game at 8-8.
For Hofstra, Mikowski scored three goals and tallied four assists. Robinson scored a game-high four goals to lead UMass offensively.
The Minutewomen will next compete on April 4 when they travel to Temple for a 3:00 p.m. game.
