Women's Lacrosse Defeats Duquesne, 16-13

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts defeated Duquesne University, 16-13, in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Richard F. Garber Field. UMass improves to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play, while Duquesne falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Massachusetts opened the scoring at the 28:08 when junior Kelli Kurtz (Schwenksville, Pa.) scored on a pass from junior Jada Emery (Priceton, N.J.). Duquesne scored six unanswered goals, including hat tricks from Kristin Harner and Ginger Flocco to take a 6-1 lead with 11 minutes remaining. A free possession goal by junior Lori Kain (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) followed by a goal from junior Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) cut the UMass defecit to three goals at the 10:00 minute mark. Kain tallied her second goal of the game with 5:05 remaining in the first half to cut the lead 6-4. Becca West and Harner each tallied a goal with under one minute remaining in the half to give the Dukes an 8-4 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Minutewomen came out strong after the break, scoring seven unaswered goals to regain the lead. Emery tied the game, 8-8, at 22:57. Kain tallied her fourth goal of the game at 22:26 giving UMass it's first lead since early in the first half. The Minutewomen outscored the Dukes 12-5 in the second half to earn their third A-10 victory of the season and remain undefeated in conference play. Robinson led all scorers with five goals, while Kain added four goals and an assist. Harner led Duquesne in scoring with four goals on the game.

Junior Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) made four saves in cage for the Minutewomen.

The Minutewomen return to action on Wednesday, April 3, when they take on Dartmouth at Ruth J. Totman field. The game is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
