Strong First Half Gives No. 16 Yale 13-9 Win Over UMass

New Haven, Conn. - Sophomore Holly Drown scored three goals and junior Kathleen Typadis scored four points on two goals and two assists, but it was not enough as No. 16 Yale (7-3) held on for a 13-9 win on Wednesday at Jordan Field. Yale stormed out of the gates in the first half taking a 7-1 lead at intermission thanks to 26 shots. The Minutewomen rallied in the second half cutting the Bulldogs' lead to four on two occassions. UMass will return to action on April 6 when the Minutewomen head to Temple.
Along with Drown and Typadis, junior Melynda Zwick scored two goals on the day to lead UMass (5-5). Defensively, keeper Lauren McCarthy made 15 saves on 37 shots faced. Despite allowing seven first half goals, she made 12 saves to keep the Bulldogs at bay. Junior defender Julie Papaleo tied her career highs with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Yale was led by Lauren Taylor's five points on three goals and two assists. Jenn Warden added three goals and six others scored a goal each. Ellen Cameron earned the win in goal making fives saves.
The Bulldogs outshot UMass 37-19 for the game and collected four more groundballs, 19-15.
