AMHERST, Mass. - Albany's Taylor Frink scored four goals and added three assists as the No. 15 Great Danes handed the No. 12 UMass women's lacrosse team a 10-8 loss on Saturday at Garber Field. Katie Ferris scored three goals to lead UMass which fell for the first time this season (6-1). Albany remains unbeaten at 6-0 - it's best start in program history.

Along with Frink, Jodi Battaglia recorded a multi-point game for the Great Danes with two goals and two assists.

Ferris posted her fourth consecutive hat trick of the season for UMass. Jackie Lyons and Jesse O'Donnell each had a pair of goals, while Ali Houlis finished with one to round out the scoring.

Katie Florence made nine saves in goal for UMass taking the loss, while Anna Berman made nine saves as well for the Albany win.

An early 2-0 lead to start the game for the Great Danes proved the difference maker as the Minutewomen trailed until the 8:56 mark of the second half when O'Donnell tied the game at 8-8 on a free position goal.

UMass had cut the lead to a goal on six occasions prior to O'Donnell's tying marker, but were unable to take a lead in the game.

Albany led 5-4 at the intermission extending the lead to 7-4, the largest of the day, on goals by Frink and Battaglia in the first five minutes of the second half.

After O'Donnell's goal, Albany called timeout and then won the ensuing draw control to go up 9-8 on Frink's fourth of the day. Albany won the next two draw controls as well scoring the 10th goal with 5:52 left and then working to run out the balance of time.

UMass did have several chances in the final moments thanks to a save by Florence and a forced turnover by Haley Smith, but the Minutewomen were unable to convert those possessions into goals.

For the game, UMass outshot Albany 33-to-22, but the Great Danes held the edge in draw controls 11-to-9 including the final three of the game.

The Minutewomen will return to action on Tuesday, March 22 at Marist (4 PM) before returning home to host No. 2 Northwestern at McGuirk Stadium on Saturday, March 26 at 7 PM.
