March 16, 2003
HANOVER, N.H. -- The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (3-2) was unable to overcome a 7-3 halftime deficit as they fell to No. 14 Dartmouth (2-0), 13-6, in Hanover, N.H., on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams traded goals to start the game after Dartmouth recorded the first strike with 28:01 left in the first half. Leslie Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y.) scored the first of her two goals of the game less than three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 with 24:02 left before intermission.
After the early tie the Big Green's offense came alive, scoring three straight goals. Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J) interrupted Dartmouth's scoring run when she tallied a goal with 7:18 remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 4-2. Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) followed up Emery's goal with a score of her own, putting the Minutewomen within one goal of Dartmouth at the 4:38 mark.
Dartmouth's Lana Smith answered UMass' pair of goals with three straight goals of her own, giving Dartmouth a 7-3 edge at the half.
The Big Green came out firing in the second half, scoring four goals in the first 10 minutes of the period. Lindsay Cassell (Weston, Mass.) ended UMass' scoring drought when she was able to use an assist from Andrea Valachovic (Framingham, Mass.) to find the back of the net. Robinson tallied her second goal of the game with 20:34 to go in the game, making the score 11-5 in favor of Dartmouth.
Pollock recorded her second goal of the game at the 13:54 mark, but it was not enough to overcome the Big Green's lead as Dartmouth defeated UMass by a final score of 13-6.
The Minutewomen will return home for a contest against Albany on March 20 at 2:00 p.m.
