Typadis Nets Career-High Six Goals In 15-7 UMass Win Over Albany

March 10, 2007

Final Stats

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) poured in a career-high six goals to lead UMass to a 15-7 win over Albany on Saturday in the first-ever women's lacrosse game at McGuirk Stadium. Typadis also recorded an assist today giving her a career-high seven points. Junior Melynda Zwick (Holland, Pa.) scored four goals as did sophomore Holly Drown (Nashua, N.H.) to lead the Minutewomen who are a perfect 6-0 all-time against the Great Danes.

UMass improves to 4-2 which matches its best start since 2003. UMass also started the 2002 season 4-2.

The Minutewomen had a season-best 10 assists in the game which is their best single-game total since registering 10 against Albany during the 2004 season. Typadis' six goals are the most for any UMass player since Kerri Connerty scored six against the Great Danes in 2005.

Typadis' six goal effort today gives her 98 for her career in 41 games and moves her into eighth-place all-time at UMass. She needs just four more points to move into 10th all-time in that category as well.

Albany (1-4) was led by Sarah Spillett who scored twice and added an assist. Kayla Best also scored twice for the Great Danes.

Best opened the day's scoring with an unassisted goal nearly six minutes into the game. Typadis answered six minutes later with her first goal which sparked five straight giving the Minutewomen a 6-1 lead. Both Drown and Zwick scored twice and Typadis added her second in that streak.

Spillett closed the first half with a free position goal with 2:46 remaining to pull the Great Danes with four, 6-2.

Drown, Zwick, and Typadis each scored consecutive goals to open up the second half before Albany responded with three straight to keep within four. Rory Redmond tallied her only goal of the game at the 15:58 mark to make it a 9-5 game.

The trio of Zwick, Drown and Typadis scored again to put the game out of reach at 12-5.

Following a Kristina Twichell goal, Typadis scored two more times giving her 19 on the young season.

Twichell led the Minutewomen with three assists on the day. Sophomore Claire Mancini (Hillsborough, Calif.) drew her first career start and responded with a career-high two assists.

UMass outshot Albany 30-to-20 and disrupted the Great Danes midfield game holding them to just eight clears on 18 attempts. UMass was 11-for-12 in the game.

Redshirt senior Lauren McCarthy made nine saves to pick up the win, while Albany keeper Jen Daly also made nine saves in the loss.

The Minutewomen will break for 10 days until travelling to New Hampshire on March 20. First draw is slated for 3 p.m.
