Juniors Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J.) and Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) each scored three goals to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 12-6 victory over No. 15 Hofstra in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Hofstra Stadium.
The Minutewomen jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first half lead thanks to three goals from Robinson, including one on a free postion. Emery had two goals and junior Kelli Kurtz (Schwenksville, Pa.) scored her third goal of the season.
Hofstra opened the second half with three straight goals to cut the Massachusetts lead to 6-4 just under five minutes into the half. Sophomore Nicole Chominski (Southampton, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season to give the Minutewomen a three-goal lead. Following a Hofstra goal, Massachusetts netted five of the last six goals to secure the 12-6 victory.
Junior Leslie Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y.) scored two of the five goals. Chominski added her second goal of the game, while Emery netted her third. Junior Lori Kain (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had the other Minutewoman goal to close out the game.
Junior Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) made 10 saves in the cage for the Minutewomen, while Megan Greene and Lisa Papa combined to make 12 saves for the Pride. The Minutewomen improve to 2-0 on the season, while Hofstra falls to 0-1. The Minutewomen return to action with a home game against Harvard on Saturday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m.
