Trio Of Career Highs Paces No. 14 Women's Lax's 22-6 Win Over Iona

AMHERST, Mass. - Led by Lauren Terracciano's career-best eight points on five goals and three assists, the No. 14 UMass women's lacrosse team cruised past Iona 22-6 on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Stadium. Along with Terracciano, Sam Rush and Cori Murray each posted a career-best six points on four goals and two assists each.
UMass improved to 4-2 on the season, while Iona falls to 1-2 overall. The Minutewomen will return to action next Friday, March against Albany (4 PM) in McGuirk Stadium.
Overall, 13 Minutewomen posted at least one point on the day with 11 scoring goals. Ellie Bullitt had a goal and two assists, while Maddie Ward and Mary Pat Theofield each tallied a goal marking the first of their UMass careers.
Rachel Vallarelli earned the win in cage playing the first half and making two saves while allowing four goals. Jamie Schiloski played 21 minutes of the second half allowing one goal and making one save. Meaghan Kollmeier made three saves and allowed one goal in the final nine minutes of play.
Kylie Gregory led Iona with two goals and one assist, while Brittney Mabus had a goal and an assist. Maria Ortiz took the loss in goal allowing 11 goals while making two saves. Blaire Nathanson played the bulk of the second half allowing 11 goals with three saves.
The Minutewomen led 15-4 at halftime scoring 10 of the first 12 goals in the game. UMass closed the final 11:17 of the opening stanza with a four-goal run with Terracciano picking up a goal and a pair of assists in that stretch.
The second half started similarly to how the first half closed with UMass going on a five-goal run. Terracciano added another two goals and an assist to spark the run.
UMass was strong in transition defense for the game holding the Gaels to just 4-of-12 clearing attempts while the Minutewomen were 10-of-11. That translated into a 33-to-14 shot advantage for UMass due in part to 24 Iona turnovers. The Minutewomen also had a 23-to-10 edge in groundballs.
