#10 Boston University Uses Pair Of Second Half Runs Downing UMass 15-5

BOSTON - After trailing 5-3 at halftime, the UMass women's lacrosse team fell 15-5 as No. 10 Boston University used a pair of four-goal runs in the second half to pull away. Xan Weitzel led all players with six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore attack Jackie Lyons scored a pair goals to lead the Minutewomen, while keeper Katie Florence made 12 saves.
UMass falls to 0-3 on the season, while the Terriers improved to 1-0 after their season opener. The Minutewomen will head to Harvard on Saturday at 1 PM.
Lyons put the Minutewomen on the scoreboard first just over eight minutes into the contest with an unassisted score. The Terriers then scored five straight goals over the next 11 minutes to go up 5-1 with 7:23 left in the first half.
Senior attack Meghan Reddy and Lyons netted back-to-back goals in the final 6:46 of the first half to cut the deficit to 5-3 at halftime.
Weitzel scored her first two goals of the game in the first five minutes of the second half before senior attack Holly Drown pulled UMass back within three, 7-4, with 23:35 to play.
The Terriers then strung together a four goal run in a three-minute span taking an 11-4 run. UMass junior attack Stephanie Hopkins scored with 19:51 remaining, but Boston University closed the game with another four-goal run to give the final margin.
Boston University held a 32-to-18 advantage in shots including a 17-to-6 edge in the first half. UMass held a 12-to-10 edge, but the Terriers controlled the groundball battle 18-to-9.
