Minutewomen and Huskies meet at Penn State on Friday night
Whitney Michele was named assistant coach in August of 2012. She joins the Minutewomen after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at High Point where she was an integral part in the development of the program which began in 2011. That season, she helped guide the Panthers to a 15-4 overall record which is an NCAA record for a first-year program.
In High Point's first two seasons of existence, the Panthers posted a 30-8 record thanks in part to Michele's recruiting experience. Michele worked with an offensive attack that was one of the best in the nation and featured a pair of NLC Players of the Year.
A four-year standout at UConn, Michele played under McMahon for two seasons (2008, 2009) where she was an All-Big East selection, a Big East Academic Scholar-Athlete and a selection to the 2009 IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game.
The East Rochester, N.Y., native has also been active in summer lacrosse camps and in club lacrosse. Since the summer of 2011, Michele has been a coach and assistant program director for the Panther Lacrosse Club which she helped co-found. She has also worked numerous summer camps across the country as an instructor.
"I'm very excited to have Whitney on our staff. She did an exceptional job of helping build High Point lacrosse from the ground up, and is a wonderful role model for our players," said head coach Angela McMahon. "Whitney is an excellent recruiter and helps our program continue to improve with her strong work ethic and knowledge of the game."
