UMass Field Hockey Signs Seven To NLIs

UMass field hockey head coach Carla Tagliente has announced the signing of seven student-athletes who will join the Minutewomen for the 2012 season. Sam Carlino, Hannah Hayward, Allie Sabia, Brooke Sabia, Courtney Spleen, Noralie Weusthuis and Madie Zimmerman have all inked National Letters of Intent to play for UMass as members of the Class of 2016. Bridget Settles scored twice to lead No. 3 seed Temple to a 4-0 victory over No. 2 seed UMass in the Atlantic 10 field hockey semifinals on Friday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's University. Senior All-American goalie Alesha Widdall made six saves as the Minutewomen conclude the season 7-11 overall with a 5-1 A-10 record that claimed them a share of the conference regular season title. Alesha Widdall headlines the list UMass field hockey players honored by the Atlantic 10 when the conference announced its postseason awards on Thursday. The senior goalkeeper was named Defensive Player of the Year, A-10 Academic All-Conference, and was named First Team All-Conference for the fourth year in a row. Widdall Selected For Senior All-Star Game

UMass field hockey goalkeeper Alesha Widdall has been selected to play at the 2011 NFHCA Division I Senior Game, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Tuesday. The two-time All-American is one of 38 players selected nationally that will compete against each other and against the USA National Team on Final Four weekend in Louisville on Nov. 19. MORE
