CHANDLER, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced UMass head coach Carla Tagliente as the Division-I Northeast Region Co-Coach of the Year with Northeastern's Cheryl Murtagh on Wednesday, as voted on by Tagliente's peers. In her second season with the Minutewomen, Tagliente led UMass to an NCAA Tournament Appearance, Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and 15-9 overall record.

The 2012 season marked a return to the top-25 for the Minutewomen, with the squad securing the No. 16 national ranking during the final weekly release issued in November. Under the guidance of Tagliente, UMass earned an NFHCA First Team All-American in Thando Zono and A-10 Defensive Player of the Year in Lauren Allymohamed while tallying four NFHCA All-Region honorees and a dozen laurels from the Atlantic 10 overall.

Previously this season Tagliente was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year prior to spearheading UMass' dominant performance in the A-10 Championship and run to its appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The 2012 Division-I National Coach of the Year laurel will be announced by the NFHCA on Monday, Dec. 17.
