Widdall Selected For Senior All-Star Game

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey goalkeeper Alesha Widdall has been selected to play at the 2011 NFHCA Division I Senior Game, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Tuesday. The two-time All-American is one of 38 players selected nationally that will compete against each other and against the USA National Team on Final Four weekend in Louisville on Nov. 19.
The All-Star Game will be played on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium. The participants will face off against each other as well as the US National Team in a series of four 25-minute sessions. The National Semifinals will be played the day before, on Friday, and the National Championship is the following day, on Sunday.
Widdall, the nation's leader in minutes played, ranks fourth among all active Division I goalies in career save percentage (.778) and goals against average (1.37). She is 47-31 in her career with 25 shutouts in 77 starts.
Widdall is a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference First-Teamer, three-time NFHCA Regional All-American, and two-time NFHCA All-American, in addition to being named the 2010 A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year and 2008 A-10 Co-Rookie of the Year.
