Oct. 31, 2013
CHANDLER, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its lineup selections for the 2013 Front Rush/NFHCA Division I Senior Game on Thursday, with Minutewomen Hannah Prince and Alexa Sikalis chosen to participate. The annual event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va., at 2:15 p.m.
Prince owns the second-most points on the high-scoring UMass offense with 19 through five goals and nine assists over 18 games played. A starter on the UMass backline, Prince has provided a pair of defensive saves while the team has held foes to just 1.33 goals per game and 9.3 shots per contest.
"Alexa and I were sitting across from each other when we got the news," Prince said. "It is such a huge honor to play in this game, having had teammates selected previously. It is always something I aspired to do. Knowing I will be playing alongside Alexa one more time is an incomparable feeling. We look forward to representing the University of Massachusetts as we face other seniors from around the country."
Sikalis is second in NCAA Division I field hockey for assists per game (0.89) and total helpers (16), while ranking third on the squad with single-season personal-best 18 points as a senior. For her career, the Acton, Mass., native has 39 points on six goals and 27 assists.
"It is a true honor to be selected for an event like this one," Sikalis said. "Especially with my teammate Hannah as we have been playing together for so many years and are such close friends. It is an exciting opportunity and I am proud to be representing UMass."
Richmond's Chelsea Davies and Anna Zarkoski and VCU's Stephanie Demasi join Prince and Sikalis in representing the Atlantic 10 Conference.
UMass concludes its regular season with games at Lock Haven on Friday, Nov. 1, and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Nov. 3. The Minutewomen will host the 2013 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship at Garber Field on Friday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9.
