AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey player Katelyn Orlando's three-goal week that saw the Minutewomen (10-3) get off to a 2-0 start in Atlantic 10 play was recognized on Monday when she was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. The senior forward scored twice in UMass' 3-1 win at Richmond on Friday and scored another goal on Sunday in a 5-0 victory over Saint Louis. Orlando is now tied for the conference lead in goals with nine.

The Manchester, Mass. native has been on a tear as of late, scoring in five-straight game and piling up 15 points over that stretch. Her team-leading nine goals and 19 points on the season rank tied for first and third, respectively, in the A-10. Orlando, in her senior season, has now scored 18 goals in her career.

Orlando started UMass' conference play on the right foot, tallying the team's first two goals in the A-10 opener at Richmond. The Minutewomen went on the win that game, 3-1, in a matchup of the teams that have combined to win the last 12 A-10 Championships.

She was the catalyst for the offense again on Sunday, scoring the first goal of the game and sparking the team to a 5-0 victory over Saint Louis at Garber Field. She was credited with the game-winner in both contests.

Orlando is the third UMass player to garner A-10 honors this season. Katie Kelly was named Player of the Week and Alesha Widdall won Rookie of the Week, both on Sept. 8.

The Minutewomen, the defending A-10 champions, are off to their best start since the 2000 season. They have won eight-straight games over conference opponents, dating back to last year. The team hits the road this weekend for games at La Salle and West Chester before returning home the following weekend to take on Saint Joseph's and Temple.
