AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey freshman defender and midfielder Noralie Weusthuis was named the UMass Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon. Weusthuis recorded her first collegiate goal on Sunday against No. 24 Maine in UMass' 4-2 victory - their fourth win over a ranked opponent this season.

When facing No. 24 Maine, Weusthuis placed home the third goal of the game against the Black Bears in the two-goal win. Weusthuis' tally marked the eventual game-deciding goal, as Maine went on to rally for a pair of scores late in the contest.

A native of the Netherlands, Weusthuis has started each of the 11 field hockey contests this season, spending time on defense and midfield during her rookie campaign. Weusthuis currently owns three points, including the recent goal and an assist during UMass' 10-1 win over Vermont.

Weusthuis is the second field hockey player to be honored as the UMass Athlete of the Week this season, joining senior midfielder Kim Young, who was honored with the laurel on Sept. 4. The Minutewomen continue their season with a game against No. 5 Connecticut at Garber Field on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.
