AMHERST, Mass. - The nationally-ranked UMass field hockey team made it 3-for-3 on Monday when goalkeeper Alesha Widdall was named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week, following teammates Jill Powers and Jaime Bourazeris, who took home the honor the previous two weeks it had been awarded this fall season. The sophomore All-American, who led the #15 Minutewomen (4-1) to two shutout victories this past weekend, was also named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Widdall, along with head coach Justine Sowry, will be honored at this Wednesday's UMass Sports Luncheon, held at the Campus Center Auditorium at 12:15 p.m.

Despite #15 UMass scoring just two goals over the weekend, the Minutewomen came away with two victories thanks to the efforts of Alesha Widdall in goal. The sophomore All-American made five saves and organized a defense that staved off 23 penalty corners to get the shutout win, 1-0, at Albany on Friday. She followed that up with a three save performance in a 1-0 win over #12 James Madison (2-2), a game that UMass was outshot, 14-4, and outcornered, 11-2. The shutouts were the second and third of the season for Widdall, giving her nine for her career. Widdall has not allowed a goal in 145 minutes and 53 seconds.

#15 UMass (4-1) won a pair of games away from home over the weekend, both by way of 1-0 shutout. On Friday, the Minutewomen handed Albany (3-1) its first loss of the season, and also being the first team to score on the Great Danes this season. On Saturday, UMass defeated #12 James Madison (2-2), 1-0, in Albany. The win was Justine Sowry's squad's second in a week over an opponent ranked in the top dozen in the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
