Bourazeris Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete Of The Week
Sept. 8, 2009
UMass Field Hockey junior defender Jaime Bourazeris has been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week after her two goal performance last weekend during the UMass Invitational. Bourazeris tallied the game-winning goal in #17 UMass' 4-3 victory over #9 Iowa last Saturday.
Bourazeris' goals over the weekend came as UMass went 1-1 against Boston University and the nationally ranked Hawkeyes. The New Hyde Park, N.Y. native scored UMass' first goal of the game in the fifth minute against the Terriers on Friday. She followed that up by scoring the game-winning goal in the Minutewomen's 4-3 upset win over Iowa on Saturday. Bourazeris also anchored the defense for UMass in both contests.
Friday, Bourazeris gave UMass the early lead when she took a Jill Powers slip pass off a penalty corner and drove it into the left side of the goal just 4:44 into the game. She scored her second goal of the season 55 minutes into the game when she poked in a rebound off a penalty corner, giving UMass a 3-2 lead on Saturday. For her career, she has scored 10 goals and has started in all 48 games she's appeared in.
UMass is now 2-1 on the season with victories over Providence and Iowa. The win
over the #9 Hawkeyes was UMass' highest over a ranked opponent since 2000. The
Minutewomen travel to Albany this weekend to take on the Great Danes on Friday
and James Madison on Saturday.
