July 22, 2014
AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts athletic department and field hockey head coach Carla Tagliente announced the addition of Sarah Mansfield to Tagliente's staff as an assistant coach on Tuesday. Mansfield joins Tagliente following the conclusion of a stellar career at the University of Connecticut where she was a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American.
"I am excited to be joining such an established program with someone as talented and knowledgeable as Carla," Mansfield said. "The UMass field hockey team has had great success and I hope that I can be part of that and help to continue the tradition. I am grateful of Carla and the entire athletic department for allowing me to join the UMass staff, and I look forward to providing a good example for the future student-athletes."
Mansfield was a four-year starter in goal for the Huskies, totaling a 75-16 record, 1.12 goals-against average and .770 save percentage over 91 appearances, which included 88 starts. The native of Cornwall, England, received all-America, all-region and All-Big East honors in each of her four campaigns.
"I am excited to have Sarah on-staff and have her work with our goalkeepers and defense," Tagliente said. "She is one of the most decorated goalkeepers to come out of college in quite some time. She has proven that she is an outstanding leader and having her perspective and experience on the UMass field hockey staff is going to be invaluable. With the addition of Sarah, we create a level of balance expertise-wise that puts this program in a very good position moving forward."
