Minutewomen Announce 2013 Team Captains
June 20, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey seniors Hannah Prince and Alexa Sikalis and junior Lauren Allymohamed will serve as the team captains during the upcoming 2013 season. The trio helped the Minutewomen to a 15-win finish last year while taking in an A-10 Tournament Title and NCAA Tournament berth.
Allymohamed contributed to UMass' reign as the preeminent defensive leader within the Atlantic 10 as a starter on the backline over 24 contests, contributing to the offense with six points on a goal and four assists. The 2012 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year added NFHCA All-Region and A-10 All-Conference First Team picks as a sophomore and worked with Prince to help hold foes to 1.75 goals per game on 10.8 shots per contest.
A three-year starter, Prince enters her final season with 63 starts in as many appearances with the squad. The defender from Gorham, Maine, notched nine points as a junior on a pair of game-winning goals and five assists, while recording four defensive saves.
Sikalis is the active team leader in career assists with 11 and owns 21 points over 65 appearances courtesy of an additional five goals, including a single-season personal-best of three scored last year. The A-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player as a freshman in 2010, Sikalis notched 12 points on three goals and six assists as a junior to enter the 2013 campaign as the returning points leader.
UMass opens the season at the University of Maine Invitational with a contest against the hosts on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. The team's first home game of the year will be against UMass-Lowell on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m., as the RiverHawks enter their first year as an NCAA Division-I field hockey program.
