COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Massachusetts field hockey alumnae Alesha Widdall was one of 18 athletes named to the United States National Team for the 2014 Hockey World Cup, as announced by U.S. head coach Craig Parnham on Monday. Widdall will compete in the Hague, Netherlands with the U.S. squad from May 31 through June 15 in the 12-team tournament.

Team USA is currently ranked No. 10 in the world and is a part of Pool B with No. 2 Argentina, No. 3 England, No. 6 Germany, No. 7 China and No. 11 South Africa. The U.S. side opens competition against England on June 1 ahead of a meeting with China on June 6. Parnham will lead the squad versus Germany on June 8 before group play closes against South Africa on June 10. The semifinal and placement games begin on June 12.

Widdall was a four-year standout with the Minutewomen from 2008-11. The starting goalkeeper for UMass during each of her seasons in Amherst, Widdall was twice named an NFHCA All-American and was the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. She has previously competed with Team USA during the Champions Challenge (2012 & 2014) and Pan American Games (2013).
