May 15, 2014
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts graduate and former field hockey standout Alexa Sikalis was selected as a Capital One Academic All-District First Team Award recipient on Thursday afternoon, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Sikalis graduated UMass with a degree in kinesiology following four years as a competitor in the midfield for the field hockey program.
Sikalis tallied the second-most assists in Division I field hockey with 20 as a senior during the 2013 season. She also provided a pair of goals for 24 points on the year and was named NFHCA Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region in addition to being selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team.
In the classroom, Sikalis was equally as lauded as she took in Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, NFHCA National Academic Squad, UMass Fall Female Scholar-Athlete and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll awards.
The Acton, Mass., native is one of only 11 recognized from District I at the NCAA Division I level and one of just six Division I field hockey student-athletes to earn the honor nationally. For NCAA Division I voting, District I is comprised of colleges and universities located in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
