April 30, 2014
AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey program and head coach Carla Tagliente announced Lauren Allymohamed, Sam Carlino and Renee Suter as the team captains for the 2014 season on Wednesday. Allymohamed and Suter will be seniors during the upcoming campaign while Carlino enters her junior year in 2014.
"Lauren, Renee and Sam have been great leaders on and off the field throughout this past season and the spring," Tagliente said. "All three have demonstrated the critical skills that leaders need to possess. They have a strong, clear vision for this group and I am excited to watch them lead this team into the 2014 season."
Allymohamed earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America and All-Region honors as a junior in 2013, her first season as a team captain. She also took home Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season during her junior campaign, was an A-10 First Team All-Conference selection and tallied 16 points via eight goals.
Carlino backstopped the Minutewomen to 19 victories with a 1.47 goals-against average and .704 save percentage during her sophomore year. The wins total tied for the second-most earned during a single season in UMass field hockey history while Carlino secured NFHCA All-Region Second Team, Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and NFHCA National Academic Squad for her efforts.
Suter earned 13 points as a junior courtesy of a single-season personal-best six goals and one assist. She had the game-winning goal when UMass earned a come-back win at Boston University on Oct. 6, 2013 and notched the tying tally against No. 7 Virginia in the NCAA Tournament First Round with only 68 seconds to play in regulation.
The Minutewomen are coming off of an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and A-10 Regular Season Title. The 2013 squad finished 19-5 overall and went undefeated in Atlantic 10 games at 7-0.
