Field Hockey Focuses On Team Improvement During Spring Season
April 17, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - Mixing daily practices with weekend tournaments, the University of Massachusetts field hockey program is in the midst of completing a spring practice season focused on team growth. To build for the fall, the Minutewomen are combining individual goals with performance expectations set by head coach Carla Tagliente as the second-year leader of the program looks to build upon a 2012 NCAA Tournament appearance during the upcoming campaign.
UMass returned 15 players from the 2012 season for spring practice, including A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Allymohamed and starting goalkeeper Sam Carlino, while adding early enrollee Izzie Delario and transfer student Tory Berry. As a group, the Minutewomen have honed their skills with a multitude of team drills, including ones focused on penalty corner set plays, precision shooting and passing from long distance.
UMass begins the 2013 season at the University of Maine with a 1 p.m. contest on Friday, August 30.
