Field Hockey Releases Schedule For 2013 Season

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Athletic Department and the Minutewomen field hockey team announced the squad's 2013 fall schedule on Thursday afternoon. The upcoming slate features matchups with five participants in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including Final Four participants Syracuse and Maryland.
After opening with contests against Maine and Michigan in Orono, Maine, on August 30-31, the Minutewomen will complete three of their 11 home games with meetings against UMass-Lowell, Harvard and Boston College. The battle between the Minutewomen and River Hawks of UMass-Lowell will mark the first in the history of the programs as the newest member of the America East Conference will be competing in its first season as a Division I squad.
Following a trip to Storrs, Conn., to face the University of Connecticut, UMass plays six consecutive games within the boundaries of Massachusetts, including four at Garber Field and one each at Northeastern and Boston University.
The Minutewomen open their Atlantic 10 Conference season at Lock Haven on Oct. 12 before returning home to face La Salle on Oct. 18. Traveling to Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia, Pa., follows before UMass challenges Richmond on Oct. 25 and VCU two days later to complete the home portion of the 2013 campaign.
UMass closes out the regular season at Saint Louis on Nov. 1 before hosting the four-team Atlantic 10 Championship on Nov. 8-9. The conference tournament winner will host an NCAA Tournament Play-In Game on Nov. 12 before the first and second rounds kick off on Nov. 16-17. The NCAA Final Four, played in Norfolk, Va., will be played on Nov. 22 before the 2013 Division I Field Hockey National Championship occurs on Nov. 24.
