Emily Hazard Completes Incoming Freshman Class
March 13, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey head coach Carla Tagliente announced the addition of Emily Hazard to the 2013-14 team roster on Wednesday, completing the incoming freshman class. Hazard adds depth to the goalkeeping unit as a four-year varsity letterwinner at Mountain Vista High School and marks the seventh addition to the Mintewomen family this year.
"Emily compliments this 2013 class very well," Tagliente said. "She embodies the characteristics that we are looking for in student-athletes - strong character, resilient work ethic, leadership and excellence in the classroom. She has a tremendous amount of potential. Combine that with a great attitude and the sky is the limit."
Hazard backstopped the 2012 Mountain Vista squad to a state championship with a .900 save percentage and only 13 goals against, tallying all-America and all-state honors while receiving all-west region player of the year. A member of the Denver Field Hockey Club, the 5-foot-8 goalie has matched her athletic prowess with her work in the classroom, recording a trio of scholastic academic all-state awards.
