AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team was lauded for its academic success during the fall semester on Tuesday, with the National Field Hockey Coaches Association naming 11 Minutewomen to its Division I Academic Squad. The 11 honorees mark a single-season most for the program while senior Callie Sweigart, who earned the honor for the fourth consecutive season, leads the group.

Sweigart in joined by Kate Heineman, Elizabeth Karns and Thando Zono to complete the quartet of seniors honored in 2013. Current juniors named to the listing include Molly MacDonnell, Alexa Sikalis and Mel Sutherland while Lauren Allymohamed and Mariajose Rodriguez represent the UMass sophomore class. Freshmen Sam Carlino and Noralie Weusthuis round out the Minutewomen group.

 

 

The NFHCA Division I Academic Squad recognized field hockey student-athletes from around the country who have earned a 3.30 GPA or higher cumulatively through the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
