Field Hockey Announces 2003 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team announced its schedule for the 2003 season on Wednesday. The Minutewomen are slated to play 19 games, eight of which will be played at home at Richard F. Garber Field.

The Minutewomen's schedule is highlighted with six games against opponents who finished the 2002 season ranked in the top 20 of the STX/ NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, taking on No. 5 Maryland, No. 8 Northeastern, No. 11 Louisville, No. 14 Harvard, No. 15 UConn and No. 18 Boston College.

UMass will open its 2003 season at home with an 11:00 a.m. game against Fairfield on Aug. 30. They will next host Maryland on Aug. 31 and Boston College on Sept. 3 before hitting the road for four straight games against St. Louis, the University of Louisville, Boston College and Harvard. The Minutewomen are then scheduled to return home for one game against Providence College on Sept. 21 before embarking on a three-game road trip, taking on Northeastern, UConn and Syracuse.

In Atlantic 10 play, Massachusetts will play its first two conference games at home against Temple and Saint Joseph's on Oct. 10 and Oct. 12, respectively. UMass will then travel to New Hampshire, Richmond, West Chester and La Salle before heading home for a non-conference match up with Dartmouth on Oct. 29. The Minutewomen will close out their regular season schedule at home against Rhode Island on Nov. 1.

The 2003 Atlantic 10 Tournament is scheduled to take place at Saint Joseph's Nov. 6-9, with the NCAA tournament beginning on Nov. 11. The 2003 field hockey season will conclude with the Final Four Nov. 21-23, which will be hosted by UMass.
